Dilemma Consultancy is pleased to announce our new
Second Generation Psychotherapy Service for the sons and daughters of refugees and survivors of war-trauma
“The second generation … are responsible for a world they didn’t create. They who did not go through the experience must transmit it.” (Elie Wiesel)
The term ‘second generation’ refers to the children of first generation immigrants, who fled from traumatic experiences in their home country. Such children grow up with the deep knowledge of their parents’ exposure to war, persecution and grave losses of many kinds.
The second generation often seem to absorb and carry unexpressed feelings from their parents’ past experiences, feeling burdened and troubled by this, and may not be able to find the help and understanding that they need to deal with them.
If this is something that you have lived with, you will know that it can have a profound and undermining effect upon your life. Second generation therapy is an opportunity to explore this legacy in a constructive way.
Second generation therapy at Dilemma is provided by our newest associate, Judy Sherwood, who has long professional and deep personal understanding of the experience of being born to refugee or war-surviving parents.
