Medico-legal Services

Dilemma Consultancy regularly provides the following:

  • Reports for Mental Health Review Tribunals
  • Reports for courts and tribunals in civil cases where negligent failure to recognize an autistic spectrum disorder or to provided appropriate education or treatment is being alleged (usually instructed by the plaintiff's solicitor)
  • Reports for courts in cases where injury or accident is alleged to have aggravated an autistic spectrum disorder
  • Reports for industrial tribunals concerning fitness to work or alleged discrimination
  • Reports in criminal cases involving a person suspected of an autistic spectrum disorder where the diagnosis may be a mitigating or explanatory factor. Instructions for these cases have been received from the defence and from the prosecution. The charges have included assault and grievous bodily harm, indecency, paedophilia, sex with an under-age person, and unlawful killing or murder. We are able to provide an assessment of capacity, of fitness to plead, and of intent.

Medicolegal assessments may be carried out on our premises, in secure hospitals, or in prisons and young offender institutions. Developmental information from parents is usually required to make a definitive diagnosis. Assessments are provided by either Professor Digby Tantam, a director of Dilemma Consultancy, Dr. Sobhi Girgis, a senior associate, or by Dr. Tony Benning, an associate.  All of them are consultants, and have experience in forensic psychiatry as well as training and expertize in the diagnosis and assessment of autistic spectrum disorders.

Full details of all our medico-legal services are available on our Dilemma Medicolegal website
